Cambridge City Council has formally confirmed the go-ahead for the establishment of a Cultural Trust to run its cultural venues and the Cambridge Folk Festival at a meeting of the Community Services Scrutiny Committee.

The non-profit distributing organisation, called Cambridge Live, will take over from Cambridge City Council, the governance, management and operation of the Cambridge Corn Exchange and Guildhall, the Cambridge Folk Festival as well as other live arts and entertainment events in Cambridge and the surrounding area.

The Trust will start trading on 1st April 2015 when the staff and assets will transfer from Cambridge City Council.

Cambridge Live is being set up as a charitable company, limited by guarantee and governed by a board of 11 Trustees who will also act as company directors. Its Founding Chair has been confirmed as Sara Garnham who will lead on a recruitment campaign to assemble the board.

Sara Garnham, Founding Chair of Cambridge Live said “It is great to get the formal endorsement for what is a brave decision from the council to safeguard the sustainability of an exciting and accessible cultural programme in Cambridge, which is already recognised internationally. I am hugely looking forward to leading Cambridge Live through its first years; it is an important time for the arts in Cambridge and the new charity offers great opportunities to further develop the cultural offer of the city.”
