Event Assistant Placements - Harrogate International Festivals

Harrogate International Festivals is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join the team to help run our exciting Festivals programme, providing a comprehensive introduction to the wide variety of roles and tasks involved in running a nationally renowned multi-arts festival. Placements offer valuable professional experience for those interested in developing a career in event management, arts administration, leisure and tourism, entertainment management and hospitality.
Many of their Events Assistants have gone on to successful careers in related fields, our placements giving them the necessary skills required to place themselves ahead of the competition in terms of work experience.
In Summer 2016 they have two placement opportunities over different time periods:
Music Team Placement 20 June – 31 July:
Individuals to join the Music Festivals Team for approx. 6 weeks to help run their exciting Festivals programme throughout the Summer. This placement would suit those with an interest and enthusiasm in music, theatre and outdoor events, and will encompass event planning, marketing and delivery.
Literature Team Placement 4-24 July:
Volunteers to join the Literature Festivals team for 3 weeks to help in the smooth running of the Raworths Harrogate Literature Festival and the renowned Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival. Candidates should demonstrate an enthusiasm and interest in Literature as well as festival/event management and marketing.
All placements are full-time, (6 days per week during July).
- an interest in and enthusiasm for the arts
- ability to communicate with people at all levels
- good attention to detail
- natural problem solving ability
- ability to use own initiative
- the willingness to work long hours during the Festivals
- plenty of energy and ability to undertake strenuous tasks e.g. get ins/outs
- practical experience of event management
- box office and/or customer service experience
- computer literacy
- driving licence and access to a vehicle (desirable)
Successful candidates will be enthusiastic about and committed to the Festivals and its audiences. They will be keen to learn and contribute to the work of the team. The Festivals look for people who are flexible, enthusiastic and willing to try new things. It’s tiring, so you’ll need to be prepared for hard work, but the buzz of working on high quality events and welcoming audiences young and old alike will provide a unique level of satisfaction.
Events Assistant placements are unpaid. The Festivals endeavours to make placements accessible, and as such is able to recompense for out-of-pocket travel expenses and make a daily contribution of £10 per day towards living costs for the duration of each placement.
The Festivals is able to provide accommodation in Harrogate for the duration of the placement, should this be required.
