Games Eden 5-a-Side Football Tournament

Games Eden 2015

Quick thinking on behalf of the organisers, meant that this 5 a side football tournament for local computer games companies went ahead despite the torrential Bank Holiday Monday rain.

A last minute switch of venue indoors to Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre from the Astroturf pitches outside Abbey Pool meant that 7 teams from Jagex, Sony’s Guerrilla Studio, Frontier, Anglia Ruskin University and last year’s winners C4 could all stay dry as they competed to win the coveted ‘Jon Hare Trophy’.

After a round Robin League the top two teams contested for the Trophy in the Final which was eventually won by Jagex who beat Anglia Ruskin University 2-1, while C4 went away with the consolation of winning the Game Eden Plate.  Tom Dodd was awarded the ‘player of the tournament’ award.

Jon Hare, a well-known games designer of titles such as Sensible Soccer and Cannon Fodder was a referee and organiser on the day along with Games Eden’s Jeremy Cooke. The pair now plan for the tournament to become a regular annual event on the Cambridge sports calendar.
