CamCreative Meet Up: Brains Eden and Local Digital Creativity

In this talk, Jeremy Cooke will discuss his past pleasures and pitfalls in the computer games industry, and open up discussion around the future of creativity and the cultural significance of digital creative media.

Jeremy is a 30 year computer games industry veteran who has experienced the highs and lows of this sometime dynamic sometime chaotic culturally pioneering visual and interactive communication art form. He has run game development teams for the last 15 years – focusing on driving games at Teque/IEL prior to selling his development studio to Midas Interactive in a multi million pound deal and becoming a paper multi-millionaire. Subsequently, he acquired all the assets and IP of Cambridge company Creature Labs – famous for Creatures and James Pond – and went on to win a BAFTA nomination for Bamzooki, the mixed reality CBBC gameshow.

Jeremy has a penchant for leading edge technologies and communication platforms and is currently on a mission to deliver digital creativity platforms to engaged markets – skewing toward education – with his company, Gameware.

Locally, some seven years back Jeremy secured funding from now defunct local agencies, including Screen East, to launch Games Eden – the local game developer networking group. GE is now a SIG of Creative Front and delivers an annual spotlight event - Brains Eden that brings the very best digital creative talent to Cambridge annually. Brains Eden takes place at Anglia Ruskin University from 4-7 July 2014.
