Anglia Ruskin Theatre Society (ARTS) presents Lysistrata, based on the comedy by Aristophanes.

Lysistrata is a head strong woman who seeks peace within WWII London. Her aim is to bring the men of Britain home and to once again find equilibrium and fairness between men and women. Her first step in achieving this goal is devising a plan that brings all the women of Britain together with an oath of abstinence. No sex until the men make peace.

She encounters resistance from the women and men as they struggle with this idea and eventually their self-control. Whilst supervising the women, Lysistrata drives forward with her plan and takes over the men's main political building, hindering military operations. Outraged, the men band together against the plan and stand up against the women.

The play experiments with the power struggle between men and women through many humorous scenes. The rigorous teasing, taunting and humiliation of each gender, causes increasing sexual and political frustration; creating an entertaining and whimsical comedy.
